Dr. Bharaktiya
Dr. Shikha Bharaktiya is Board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. After completing her Endocrinology fellowship in 2008 at the University of Texas, Houston, Dr. Bharaktiya founded Endocrinology Clinics of Texas. Over the past 13 years in private practice, she has built a reputation of being one of Houston’s finest endocrinologists and most notably, being considered one of Houston’s Top physicians and endocrinologists by the Houstonia magazine.
Dr. Bharaktiya completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas, Houston in 2005 where she served as the Chief Resident in the Department of Internal Medicine. She then stayed at the University of Texas, Houston to complete a fellowship in Endocrine, Diabetes, and Metabolism. During her training she has rotated through many of the hospitals in the Houston Medical Center including Memorial Hermann Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Lyndon Johnson Hospital. Dr. Bharaktiya continues her passion of teaching residents by continuing an academic affiliation at Memorial Hermann Southwest Family Practice.
Dr. Bharaktiya firmly believes in personalized care and lifestyle management. While she follows a vegan diet, she realizes the need to train people with different dietary requirements to achieve their lifestyle goals. She enjoys practicing all aspects of general endocrinology. Her treatment focus areas include but are not limited to: Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid cancers, adrenal disorders, pituitary diseases, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, osteoporosis, and other disorders of calcium metabolism.
Since digital health plays a significant role in managing diabetes, she is very well versed in the latest technology to support patients for management of diabetes including Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems and Insulin pumps. She also has a special interest in obesity prevention and management.
Dr. Bharaktiya is fluent in English, Kannada, Hindi and is an excellent cook.
Dr. Splenser
Dr. Splenser is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology. Originally from Argentina, he is a native Spanish speaker, and has been a Texan since 1991. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where he also completed his internal medicine residency and endocrine fellowship. He completed a research fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School in Boston performing research studies looking at ways to protect the kidneys, nerves and eyes of diabetics. During his final year of fellowship he was chosen as one of eight fellows in the nation to participate in a preceptorship in metabolic bone diseases and osteoporosis at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City in 2012. He is a clinical professor with Baylor College of Medicine, helps mentor future doctors, and has authored and participated in a number of journal articles. (see publication list)
After completing his training Dr. Splenser moved to Portland Oregon for two years. He moved back to Houston and joined Dr. Shikha Bharaktiya in 2014 He quickly developed a reputation for being one of the top endocrinologist in Houston according to his peers and has received multiple awards including Texas Monthly four consecutive years (Super doctor's rising star physician 2018-2020, Texas Super Doctor's 2021), Houstonia magazine's top endocrinologist in Houston, and also top doc recognition on H-Texas magazine. More importantly, his patients would agree he focuses on each patient's individual needs, and treats patients as he would like to be treated as a patient. His mantra is that if a patient understands their disease and treatment plan, then they feel empowered and invested in their health. Dr. Splenser is also very passionate about disease prevention and lifestyle changes to improve and even cure many medical problems facing our society. Many of his patients can attest to improved health, weight loss, and a sense of vitality that they never thought they could attain.
He specializes in the treatment of many medical conditions ranging from thyroid problems, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, type I and type II diabetes, PCOS, high cholesterol/triglycerides, and fatty liver. His favorite emphasis is on disease prevention and lifestyle changes to improve and even cure many medical problems. For obesity management, he enjoys teaching patients healthy and sustainable ways to gain control of their weight. An early adopter of many treatment modalities, Dr. Splenser enjoys offering the newest medications and technologies to patients including continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and weight loss strategies. He is also a specialist in hormone replacement in men and women, and the treatment of osteopenia / osteoporosis.
When he is not practicing medicine Dr. Splenser is an exercise fanatic being involved in HIIT, running, rowing, playing tennis and soccer. He also loves to garden and read.
